"I like the idea of abstracting the figure by a continual process of layering poses drawn from life. This helps remove the restrictive practice of treating a work preciously, allowing me to focus on the process of drawing. I do this as a way of experimenting with mark-making, learning about the materiality of the mediums I'm using, as well as playing around with compositional elements. The resulting artwork tends to have a sense of history and a richly textured appearance, which hopefully looks good and keeps the eye interested."

"Nothing particularly novel about the (work) itself (relative to other recent digital works of mine), though in the process of drawing, I think I saved this one (got it together) in the last few minutes available, which is always a nice feeling."

"This is a digital drawing using the Autodesk Sketchbook app on a smart phone (available for free on the internet... other apps are available). The inexactness of using one's finger to draw on a touchscreen provides a serendipitous quality to mark-making."
