Have you noticed that, if you Google ‘ArtsNorth’, you see headings like ‘Contact’, ‘About’, ‘Bulletins’, and ‘Don Meyer’?  Yes, hmmm ...

(How come ‘Don Meyer’??  Hmmm ... How come not your name??

Uhmm ... maybe you are not using the site as much as he does/as much as you could?? (Maybe you’ve got a life?) (Google KNOWS!! ...
Google knows everything ...)

(Meanwhile, Meyer insists he was set up)

ArtsNorth SALA Open Studio Weekend

Inspiration is what ArtsNorth  members offered their visitors and each other.  Inspiration in Mixed Media.

First of all on the Saturday, a good number of members turned up, got out their stuff and went to work so as to put on a show for any visitors. However the only visitor for the day was already there and, although very welcome, had departed before 'openers' and not another visitor was to be seen all afternoon. The team worked on undaunted, making art.

Sunday – again the troops took up positions. No visitors. More troops arrived. And so did a couple of visitors .. as it turns out, members of twenty years ago, interested in becoming actively involved!  It doesn't get much better than that .. but it did - another visitor wanting to join us! Then yet another possible candidate!
That the efforts of members were rewarded was wonderful. That so many members tried so hard to make the event a success was inspiring. Do you agree?

The weekend was a lot of fun and members worked in various media and styles including still life (three different subjects - in charcoal, pastel and acrylic paint); fantasy drawing from the imagination in pencil; drawing animation in charcoal; oil and water colour portraits; acrylic landscapes and mark making in charcoal.

A great effort.

ArtsNorth 'Great Hall Exhib'  Opening

A small but credible attendance.  Meredith thanked  the Playford Council for their support and also thanked, particularly, David Stoeckel, the exhibition judge.  The works exhibited definitely displayed better under the night-time light.

Graham's Drawing Marathon stop-motion video was on loop display on the main monitor in the hall and attracted lots of attention and lots of positive comment.  A BIG EFFORT.

.... and the PRIZE WINNERS?

Best work priced under $200

Oranges - Robert Martin

Best work priced $200-400

'Mark-making' - Colin Ross Trenaman

Best work priced above $400

'Valley of the Winds' - Alex Toyne

Congratulations to the winners! But naturally, congratulations also to all who participated; to all who were part of ArtsNorth activities over the past year; and, particularly, congratulations to the committee (Hans in particular) for undertaking the initiative of awarding prizes.  (David Stoeckel remarked very positively)

Drawing Practice

3/8/2015

Many would not be aware that currently a group is undertaking Drawing Practice on the Mondays alternate to Portrait Practice Mondays.  The format is completely free (do your own thing).  HOWEVER, should anyone want a little help OR fancy a bit of self discipline, there have been opportunities to undertake still life drawings and similar - you can make the standard as high (or low) as you might wish.  Any medium - charcoal and pastel have been the favourites.

All members are welcome to join the group.  Next session Monday  17 Aug 15, 12.30 - 3.30pm.  Studio fee ($3) only.

Today's models were a coat, or more taxing, a spinning wheel.
